OPEN WORKSHOP: The Friends of the GSWW will be opening their Works Shed for any people that are interested in the track maintenance side of hiking.
You will be able to meet some of the volunteers and see their very impressive workshop and maintenance equipment.
Open Saturday 10th October, 2-4pm, and Sunday by appointment.
CANOE WALKS: It has been brought to our attention, that walkers are having reservations about paddling upstream. The Bochara/Glenelg River is a ’tidal’ river, so the wind usually has more effect on paddling conditions.
We spoke to Alicia from Paeston Canoe Hire. Alicia & Ben Rentsch, are generously supporting the Fed Walks weekend, and she has extensive experience on the river. As Alicia explained...
"We have an estuary river meaning we have high and low tides only - the river usually in October has no current unlike the Murray River which is approx 4K/hour. It is very unlikely we would have any issues as our main environmental consideration is wind. If it’s a head wind it can be difficult to paddle but we will determine the weather conditions closer to the date and make adjustments if we need.”
So if you would still like to go on the canoe walk, there are spots still available, and you won’t be paddling against the current.
All participants will need to organise their own accommodation.

The Saturday night dinner is on the edge of town at the Portland Golf Club. (For people without transport on Saturday evening. There is a shuttle minibus option that will take people from the HUB to the Golf Club and return for a small fee, $5 each way)
